Withered fig tree and the lesson on faith

Bethany, near Jerusalem Jerusalem

Matthew 21:19b-22Mark 11:19-26
19And when evening came, he went out of the city.
19bThen he said to it, “May there never be any fruit from you again.” And at once the fig tree withered. 20When the disciples saw it, they were amazed, saying, “How did the fig tree wither all at once?” 21Jesus answered them, “Truly I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only will you do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen. 22And if you have faith, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” 20In the morning, as they went along, they saw that the fig tree had withered from its roots. 21Then Peter remembered what had happened and said to Jesus, “Rabbi, behold, the fig tree that you cursed has withered!” 22In response Jesus said to them, “Have faith in God. 23For truly I say to you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, whatever he says will be granted to him. 24Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you are receiving it, and it will be yours. 25And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven will also forgive you your trespasses. 26But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.”
