3b“Behold, a sower went out to sow. 4As he sowed, some seeds fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them. 5Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and they sprang up immediately because they had no depth of soil. 6But when the sun rose, they were scorched. And because they had no root, they withered away. | 3“Listen! A sower went out to sow. 4As he sowed, some seed fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured it. 5Other seed fell on rocky ground, where it did not have much soil, and it sprang up immediately because it had no depth of soil. 6But when the sun rose, it was scorched0x3B and because it had no root, it withered away. | 5“A sower went out to sow his seed. As he sowed, some seed fell along the path and was trampled underfoot, and the birds of the sky devoured it. 6Other seed fell on the rock, and as it grew up, it withered away because it had no moisture. |
7Other seeds fell among the thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. | 7Other seed fell among the thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it produced no fruit. | 7Other seed fell among the thorns, and the thorns grew up with it and choked it. |
8But other seeds fell on good soil and produced fruit, some a hundred, some sixty, and some thirty times more than what was sown. 9He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” | 8But other seed fell into good soil and produced fruit that grew and increased0x3B some bore thirty, some sixty, and some a hundred times more than what was sown.” 9Then he said, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” | 8But other seed fell into good soil, and when it grew, it produced a hundred times more than what was sown.” As he said this, he called out, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” |
10Then the disciples came and said to him, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?” 11Jesus answered them, “To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. 12For whoever has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. But whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. 13That is why I speak to them in parables, because ‘they see but do not perceive, and they hear but do not listen or understand.’ | 10When he was alone, those who were around him, along with the twelve, asked him about the parable. 11So he said to them, “To you it has been given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God, but to those who are outside everything is said in parables, | 9Then his disciples asked him, “What does this parable mean?” 10aHe said, “To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the rest I speak in parables, so that |
14In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which says,‘You will hear but never understand, and you will see but never perceive. 15For the heart of this people has become dull0x3Bwith their ears they have barely heard, and their eyes they have closed, lest they should see with their eyes, hear with their ears, and understand with their heart and turn back, and I would heal them.’ 16But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear. 17For truly I say to you, many prophets and righteous people desired to see the things you see but did not see them, and to hear the things you hear but did not hear them. | 12so that‘they may see but not perceive, and hear but not understand, lest they should turn back and their sins be forgiven them.’ ” | 10bthey may see but not perceive, and hear but not understand.’ |
18“Hear then the parable of the sower: 19When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the seed sown along the path. 20The seed sown on rocky ground is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy. 21Yet he has no root in himself, but is only temporary. When tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, he immediately falls away. 22The seed sown among the thorns is he who hears the word, but the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. 23But the seed sown on the good soil is he who hears the word and understands it, who bears fruit and produces a hundred, sixty, or thirty times more than what was sown.” | 13Then he said to them, “Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the other parables? 14The sower sows the word. 15Now some people are like the seed along the path, where the word is sown. When they hear, Satan immediately comes and takes away the word that is sown in their hearts. 16Likewise, some people are like the seed sown on rocky ground. When they hear the word, they immediately receive it with joy. 17Yet they have no root in themselves, but are only temporary. When tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, they immediately fall away. 18Others are like the seed sown among the thorns. They hear the word, 19but the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desire for other things enter in and choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. 20But others are like the seed sown on the good soil. They hear the word, receive it, and bear fruit—some thirty, some sixty, and some a hundred times more than what was sown.” | 11“Now this is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God. 12The ones along the path are those who hear0x3B then the devil comes and takes away the word from their heart, so that they may not believe and be saved. 13The ones on the rock are those who, when they hear the word, receive it with joy. Yet they have no root0x3B they believe for a while, but in a time of testing they fall away. 14The seed that fell among the thorns are those who have heard, but as they go on their way they are choked by the cares, riches, and pleasures of this life, and their fruit does not mature. 15But the seed in the good soil are those who hear the word, hold fast to it with an honest and good heart, and bear fruit with patient endurance. |
| 21He also said to them, “Is a lamp brought in to be put under a basket, or under a bed? Is it not brought in to be set on a lampstand? 22For there is nothing hidden that will not be made manifest, nor has anything been made secret, but that it may come to light. 23If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.” 24Then he said to them, “Consider what you hear. With the measure you use it will be measured to you, and more will be added to you who hear. 25For whoever has will be given more, but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.” | 16“No one lights a lamp and covers it with a container or puts it under a bed. Instead, it is put on a lampstand, so that those who come in may see its light. 17For nothing is hidden that will not be made manifest, nor is anything hidden away that will not be made known and come to light. 18Therefore consider how you hear, for whoever has will be given more, but whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has will be taken away from him.” |
