Different responses to Jesus and Jesus' response to the crowds

Jerusalem

John 12:36b-50
36bAfter saying these things, Jesus went away and was hidden from them. 37Although he had done so many signs in their presence, they did not believe in him. 38This was to fulfill what had been spoken by Isaiah the prophet:“Lord, who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”[*] 39For this reason they could not believe, for again Isaiah said, 40“He has blinded their eyesand hardened their hearts, lest they should see with their eyesand understand with their heart and turn back, and I would heal them.”[*] 41Isaiah said these things when he saw the Lord's glory and spoke about him. 42Nevertheless, many even among the rulers believed in him, but because of the Pharisees they would not confess it, so that they would not be put out of the synagogue. 43For they loved the glory that comes from men more than the glory that comes from God. 44Then Jesus cried out and said, “Whoever believes in me, believes not in me but in him who sent me. 45And whoever sees me sees him who sent me. 46I have come into the world as light, so that no one who believes in me should remain in darkness. 47If anyone hears my words and does not believe, I do not judge him0x3B for I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. 48He who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge0x3B the word I have spoken will judge him on the last day. 49For I have not spoken on my own authority, but the Father who sent me gave me a commandment as to what I should say and what I should speak. 50And I know that his commandment leads to eternal life. What I speak, therefore, I speak just as the Father has told me.”
